Amiga CDTV x86 Project
Hi all once again.
My last project was to use a broken CDTV case and re purpose it into an everyday usable machine.
Surprisingly there is very little space inside these cases for a full PC build, but we'll squeeze it all in somehow ;)
After having an empty CDTV case (thanks Michael Mclaughlin ) with no front panel i was wondering what to do with it, the CDTV case to me at least looks great and i loved the way it was designed to live in a nice stereo stack system, looking right in any living room. A quick shout out for a broken front panel and Timothy James Faloon came to the rescue, I now had a complete case although scratched dented and broken it was a very good start :)
The case was powder coated in satin black
Now onto the front panel, this needed to be cut to accept a full size optical drive, the cracks were backed with an aluminium strip, then filled, sanded and painted, another aluminium strip was placed in front to tie the front panel in with the new wireless keyboard
A new label was designed for the keyboard to tie in with the main unit
The rear panel (never underestimate the awesomeness of a cardboard mock up :D ) CAD drawn from the cardboard version, water jet cut and powder coated in satin black
Beautiful right?
The inside of the case had to be flattened to get enough height to mount the motherboard, then the case was drilled and tapped to suit the motherboard mountings
Another Arduino was used to control the two 9 pin joystick ports and the LCD display (again thanks to Andy Mason)
Time to cram everything into the case :)
So everything fits and we move onto the usual hide the windows and boot to WinUAE routine, once done time to play some Alien Breed 3D II :D
Phew another machine completed.
next up will be the Cadbury's A500 ;)
cheers all, Justin
