Oculus Rift DK1 (learning time)

First things first, a HUGH thank you to John McDermott for lending me his Oculus Rift DK1 :) (thanks buddy)

Setting up the hardware is a doddle, usb to control unit, power to control unit, DVI or HDMI from grapics card to control unit, hit the on button, hardware setup complete :)

now download and install the following

Oculus Audio SDK Plugins V0.11.2 Oculus SDK for Windows V0.6.0.1-beta Oculus Runtime for Windows V0.6.0.1-beta Oculus Utilities for Unity V0.1.0-beta Unreal Engine 4 Integration V0.6.0.1-beta

once done go here

with the OR DK1 i have found that an i7 with a 970 plays everything so far at full whack so good news there :)

Assetto Corsa also supports the OR but........it is not really playable due to the ORs screens being so blocky, the actual 3D world is great but the blocks make hitting an apex more luck than judgement.

Be prepared for some motion sickness (my wife was sensitive to it, I wasn't)

Also be prepared to move screens about to get the best image you can

here are a couple of handy guides for you

And here is something you must try!!!! https://share.oculus.com/app/virtual-desktop

Another thing that really impressed me is that although my eyesight is very poor in my right eye I was still able to use this :)

I am now filled with confidence to buy the full retail version of the Rift, hopefully due out early next year for somewhere between £250 and £300, I know the DK2 has better screens and movement detection etc (but i don't know anyone that will lend me a DK2 to compare, hint, hint :) )

cheers, Justin
